Early American Pressed Glass Compote Piece
*Pattern: Originally called "Tippecanoe" or "Pioneer". Collectors renamed it the more romantic "Westward Ho!"; this piece is by LG Wright Glass Co. 1960s Era, and it is based off of the original Western Ho piece by Gillinder & Sons of Philadelphia, note no Adam’s apple on this piece as the original has, amongst a few other distinguishing differences.
Measurements:
Approximately 12” tall to the top
Approximately 6" in diameter
Approximately 3 5/8" in diameter at the base
Considered a rare glass pattern to find, very detailed with frosted & clear glass etchings.
CONDITION
*Excellent antique condition. No chips, cracks or visible damage seen anywhere on this piece.
*This amazingly beautiful, large, covered compote representing the American expansion westward by three great routes of travel: the rivers, the mountains and the prairies. The trilogy is represented in the acid etched (frosted) band around each piece and includes engraved scenes representing the expeditions of Lewis and Clark (the rivers) and Zebulon Pike (the mountains) along with scenes representing the Plains Indians (the prairie). At the forefront of the pictorial is larger sized engravings of a buck, a bison and a log cabin. The frosted cover features a finial of a kneeling Native American with a plumed headdress.
